Unfortunately the attitude to religion and faith is completely different in our times than it was in the past. Although the vast majority claims to be Catholic , the presence of religion in everyday life doesn't play such an important role for them anymore. But what causes such a situation?
First of all, a common man has to many duties and obligation to be so much concerned about his spiritual state. A simple man, after coming back from work and having a weekend only for his family desires to spend all his time only with them.
Secondly, the religion is no longer a competition for all the options of spending free time. The Church has not adapted itself into the modern reality and its needs. Its strict attitude in respect to the social issues of our times discourages potential believers even more.
However, the latest events which took place in Rome after the death of John Paul II may present a little bit different point of view. But still it seems that it was more a kind of an impulse and admiration of a man than a sign of a true faith.
To sum it up Id like to add that Im deeply convinced that the diminished rate of need for religion is caused by the Church itself. I reckon that in order to change this attitude we all need to slow down and think more about our morality.
